New Authors

Are you an author looking to have your manuscript professionally published to a book?

It could be a biography or family memorabilia.

Perhaps you don’t want it traditionally published, just a copy for the coffee table.

Then, Hiram B. Good can do that for you, and more.

Your manuscript would be your first port of call for publication, but of course there are other criteria to be considered. Is it for the coffee table or do you want to go the whole hog and have it traditionally published?

You may have had an enthusiastic response from a literary agent. If you haven’t, as an Independent author (an Indie) that wouldn’t prevent you from having your book published.

You’ve probably heard of Amazon. Of course, Amazon is not the only publishing platform in the world for Indie writers, but it is the biggest. Most, or all of the top publishing houses and agents have their authors’ books displayed to booksellers like Waterstones or WH Smith as well as supermarkets, but they always put them out on Amazon as well.

For better or worse, my books are with Amazon. They are also world-wide on Draft2Digital. Take a look.

The easiest and quickest way to have your book published is to have the manuscript formatted for an Ebook first. If you don’t already know what an Ebook is, it’s the whole, book along with chapter headings etc which has been formatted in such a way as to allow a reader to download your book onto a smart phone, tablet, computer, or – in the case of Amazon – a Kindle device.

Hiram B. Good will format your manuscript for all of the above devices. EBook Formatting for Kindle and other Distributors uses HTML and CSS coding to achieve this.

Most Indie authors have an Ebook and a Paperback. Hiram B. Good can do that for you as a package. Paperback book make-up for Amazon and other distribution.

Hiram B Good has produced hundreds of paperback books for some of the most prestigious publishers in the business. He knows what he’s doing.

Now a word about your manuscript. Did you write it pencil on paper, or as a Word Document? Or was it the more traditional method of a typewriter.

Believe it or not, many authors are returning to the faithful old typewriter today. The comfortable sound of keys clacking out characters has created new and dedicated devotees to uphold the tradition.

If you have written pencil – or pen for that matter – to paper; or clacked it out on your beloved Underwood portable as Ernest Hemingway did, then the manuscript will need to be typeset (or letter assembled as it is sometimes referred) before it can be converted to an Ebook or a Paperback.

Typesetting in English, European, and Eastern European languages is nothing new to Hiram B. Good. He was a qualified typesetter from the ‘old school’.

Hiram B. Good can do this for you, and more.

These days most people have written their book using Microsoft Word condemning the typesetter to history, but not proofreading. And while spellcheckers, AI and other such nonsenses are available professional publishers wouldn’t put their entire faith in them – not any worthy of their salt anyway!

Hiram B. Good was an affiliate member of the Association of Correctors’ at Press one time. That is, he has been a proofreader working for the Harmsworth Group of newspapers and the Advertisement Production Employers Federation along with many others. Proofreading for Books, Academic work, and Printed material is his specialty.

You will need a book cover. One for the Ebook displaying the front of the book, another for the Paperback displaying front, back and spine. Graphic Design is needed here . . .

. . . for the art of composing illustrative covers for magazines, film posters, record covers, holiday guides, advertising literature . . . and . . . books, Hiram B. Good has them covered.

Publishers and literary agents

Hiram B. Good knows all about the pressures publishers and literary agents are under getting to the market in these times. He’s been at the coalface twixt publishing houses and the printing press more times than enough.

Indeed his signature was very often required before any press would be allowed to roll.

Whether books or magazines last-minute corrections have always been a problem in the publishing world. Not being able to find someone that knows what he’s doing at short notice to rectify any ‘one-minute-to-twelve; the press is waiting to roll’ merely exacerbates these problems.

Whether it’s AC’s or RC’s needing urgent last-minute checks, editing or recasting copy to fit, then Hiram B. Good is available to meet these problems.
