Social Media Scams, The Move to Windows 11, Custom Build Computers and Watch out for the Rogues

Mar 14, 2024

In today’s digital world, technology offers incredible opportunities but it also comes with risks. From clever social media scams to the latest Windows 11 updates, and the growing popularity of custom build computers, staying informed has never been more important. This blog guides you through essential tips to protect yourself, make smart tech choices, and stay one step ahead of online rogues.

Quick Answer :
Stay safe online by avoiding social media scams, updating to Windows 11 for improved security, and using custom build computers for tailored performance—all while being cautious of cyber rogues.

Facebook  and Other Social Media Scams

We are seeing an increasing number of people getting messages via social media pretending to be Facebook and flagging that a group or page is in violation of Facebook policies and will be closed down. To avoid said closure you have to click on a link and login etc…..

THIS IS A SCAM!

Facebook would message you internally not your general business page, group or personal messenger. Even if they are persistent. Don’t respond. Please do contact us, take a screenshot or something and check in with us regarding it if you are ever uncertain, it’s FREE to ping us an email and get a response.

If actioned these scams can lead to you handing over your Facebook details as well as potentially allowing someone to access and block you from your page, group etc.

Windows 10 and the move to Windows 11

Well next year is going to be the year that Windows 10 reaches its End of Life Cycle

“When a Windows version reaches its end-of-support date, the software keeps working, but the update channel grinds to a halt. There will be no new security updates, non-security updates, or assisted support. Customers are encouraged to migrate to the latest version of the product or service.”

With this said, you are encouraged, from a security standpoint, to upgrade to Windows 11.

Some slightly older machines can move up to Windows 11 but they definitely need a solid state drive installing and additional memory to ensure it works efficiently. Please note that anything bought with Windows 8 or under on it we would generally say doesn’t go onto Windows 11 (as we expect to see some sort of limitation at some point i.e. it won’t go on the latest version or similar).

If you are looking for computer repairs for home or computer repairs for business and/or the upgrades please do check out our Computer section of our website:  Custom Build PCs

We occasionally see or speak to people who are either planning on building their own custom build PC or have built their custom built PC only for it not to work when booted up. With over 15 years experience (over their mate who knows a bit about PC’s) feel free to touch base with us on the components you are planning on using.

We don’t follow the media that is effectively paid to say how great a product is and hypes it up until the next paid advert comes out. We look at your components and make suggestions and alterations based on professional experience.

Pop us an email with the build you are planning and we can analyse completely free of charge. It’s our little way of saying thank you to our local community and also ensures you are picking the correct components to work from the get go.

Do watch out for the rogues

Whilst we are here, we do wish to mention that there are some people “doing IT” as a side job etc. these individuals are generally not insured or qualified and therefore, we do ask you to be careful with individuals who claim they can fix your device. We are the ones ending up repairing it at a much higher cost because someone tried to save some money getting their mate or neighbour to fix it and in turn have made matters worse in the long run.

You can check out our memberships that we hold.
