Give your artwork an equal-sided canvas with professionally printed 148×148 greeting cards from ABC Service. The square format is particularly effective for birthday cards, celebration designs, photography, illustrations and bold visual ranges where the cover needs to make an impression at a glance.

Each card begins as a flat sheet measuring 296×148mm. It is printed, scored through the centre and folded to create a finished square card measuring approximately 148×148mm. The result is a balanced four-panel format for a front cover, back panel and inside message areas.

What size is a 148×148 greeting card?

The finished folded card is approximately 148mm wide by 148mm high. Before folding, the flat trimmed sheet measures 296×148mm, with the long edge scored through the centre.

The square format provides four equal-sized panels to plan:

    • Front cover
    • Back panel
    • Inside-left panel
    • Inside-right panel

The live product information contains one inconsistent reference to a 298mm sheet width, but the stated 296×148mm sheet and 148×148mm finished geometry are the dimensions to work from. Always check the live product instructions before submitting artwork.

A square card gives a birthday design room to feel balanced, bold and instantly recognisable.

Why square cards suit birthdays and celebrations

Equal width and height make the 148×148 format a natural choice for a central birthday illustration. Balloons, cakes, confetti, party streamers and circular compositions can sit comfortably on the front without being squeezed into a tall or wide layout.

The format also works well for:

    • Birthday and milestone cards
    • Anniversary and engagement greetings
    • Graduation and achievement cards
    • Party invitations
    • Square photography and illustration
    • Seasonal and Christmas card collections
    • Customer thank-you cards
    • Business celebration and client greetings
    • Independent retail and maker ranges
    • Reseller collections with several designs

Although the product image highlights a birthday design, the finished card is flexible enough for any occasion where a distinctive square presentation suits the artwork.

    Choose the card media

GSM means grams per square metre. It is a standard way to describe the weight of paper or card. A higher gsm generally gives a heavier feel, although the surface and construction also affect how the card handles and looks.

The product page lists these media choices:

    • 300gsm Uncoated for a natural surface with a softer, writable feel
    • 350gsm Silk for smooth handling and clean colour reproduction
    • 400gsm Artboard for a more substantial and rigid card
    • 280gsm Kraft for a warm brown appearance and natural character
    • 300gsm Gesso for a distinctive textured-style surface

For bright birthday artwork, silk can support vivid colour, while uncoated or Kraft media can create a softer, more handcrafted feel. Choose according to the artwork, audience and way the card will be handled.

    Envelopes and finishing options

The product page offers white or Kraft envelopes, subject to the live options selected. White provides a clean presentation, while Kraft can complement handmade, natural or craft-led designs.

    Available finishing choices include:

    • No Laminate
    • Matt Laminate
    • Gloss Laminate
    • Soft Touch Laminate

Lamination adds a protective film and changes the appearance and feel of the printed surface. Gloss can bring extra shine to bright colours, while matt and soft touch provide a more subdued finish. Check the live product options for the combinations available with your chosen media and quantity.

Single-sided and double-sided printing options are also available. Double-sided printing is useful where the back panel carries branding, artist information or a continuation of the front design.

Prepare artwork for a square folded card

The product instructions request artwork at 302×154mm, including 3mm bleed on every edge. This is larger than the 296×148mm trimmed flat sheet because the extra artwork allows the edges to be trimmed cleanly.

    When preparing your file:

    • Set the artwork size to 302×154mm including 3mm bleed
    • Allow for the flat 296×148mm sheet and centre score
    • Plan the front, back and two inside panels before exporting
    • Keep names, ages, dates and important details inside the safe area
    • Keep fine artwork away from the centre score
    • Extend full-bleed colours and images into the bleed area
    • Check the orientation of every panel
    • Proofread each personalised variation before uploading

Square artwork often looks strongest when it has one clear focal point. A cake, balloon group, photograph or central illustration can anchor the cover, while the inside panels carry the message and signing space.

    Ordering multiple square designs

The ordering system cannot detect multi-page documents automatically. If your file contains two or more pages or designs, select the correct quantity for the number of finished cards required.

Where the live options allow it, several designs can be submitted within one order quantity. This is useful for birthday collections, seasonal ranges, independent retailers, makers and resellers who want a consistent square format with different artwork.

Label files clearly and check how the order quantity should be divided before uploading. A multi-page PDF does not automatically tell the ordering system how many copies of each design are required.
